How is the ETICS market in Germany developing? This dataset provides demand for external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) with expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards in million m² of system area for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.
An ETICS is a tested system of insulation boards, mortar, mesh, anchors and render. EPS is by far the most important ETICS insulation and the cost-effective standard for facade renovation, especially on single- and two-family houses in low building classes without fire barriers. Taller and non-residential buildings more often use mineral wool for fire safety, ecological projects wood fibre; such systems are not included.
Demand is under pressure: subsidy cuts and sharply higher costs made ETICS sales slump. Thanks to its renovation base, EPS held up better than construction overall but is slowly losing share to mineral wool and ecological materials, a double headwind. A mild recovery is expected after the trough, supported by renovation requirements of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD); earlier peaks will not return. Homes account for most of the area.

The dataset is aimed at makers of ETICS, EPS boards, mortars and anchors, suppliers of expandable polystyrene, wholesalers, plasterers, investors and analysts. The series supports sales and capacity planning.
Data basis and methodology
Values are split by new build and renovation and by residential and non-residential, plus the total market. The model combines building completions, building permits and renovation activity with ETICS-suitable facade area per m² of floor area and the EPS share per segment. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values.
