Description

Metal roofing market Germany: consumption in million m² and forecast to 2031

How is the metal roofing market in Germany developing? The dataset provides consumption of metal coverings on pitched roofs in million m² of roof area for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

It covers seamed and laid metal coverings in aluminium, titanium-zinc or copper: standing seam roofs, metal roof panels, shingles and tiles. Trapezoidal sheeting on hall roofs is a separate dataset; low-pitch large metal roofs count as flat roofs. The focus is non-residential: church spires and monuments in copper or zinc, museums, town halls, car showrooms and barns. In housing: architect-designed homes with monopitch roofs, houses in snowy regions, re-roofing over old roofs and storey additions.

Metal is no substitute for tiles on the standard gable roof. It wins at low pitches, in modern architecture, lightweight construction and on heritage buildings where copper and zinc have no alternative. Demand is therefore resilient, easing only slightly in the downturn as clay and concrete tiles slumped. Photovoltaics (PV) is only a mild tailwind: standing seam allows clamp fixing, but most PV goes on tiled roofs. A slow recovery without a boom is expected.

Which questions about the metal roofing market does the dataset answer?

  • How far did metal roofing fall in the downturn, and how does it recover?
  • How is demand split between non-residential and residential buildings?
  • How is consumption split between new roofs and refurbishment of existing roofs?
  • How does sales planning for standing seam systems match the consumption path to 2031?

Who is the dataset for?

Makers of standing seam systems and suppliers of aluminium, zinc and copper strip use the series for sales and capacity planning. Sheet metal workers, roofers, merchants and architects gain a sound view; investors and analysts can assess the niche.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset shows the total market and the split by new build and renovation and by residential and non-residential. The model combines building completions, building permits and re-roofing activity with a material-neutral pitched-roof geometry per square metre of floor area, the metal share per segment and a factor for demand partly decoupled from new build. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Slate (natural roofing), Clay roof tiles (plain, interlocking), Roof underlay membrane and all data on roofs.
