Every new lift counts, whether in a new building, retrofitted or fully replacing an old one. Partial modernisation of controls, drives or doors, home and platform lifts under the Machinery Directive, goods and construction hoists, escalators, moving walks and stairlifts are excluded.<\/p>\n<p>New lifts go mainly into apartment blocks and into offices, hospitals, schools, hotels and retail; residential buildings account for most growth of the installed base. The collapse in residential building permits reaches installations with a delay; after a trough in 2026, the new-build recovery restores volume. Retrofits and full replacements stabilise demand and gain weight, although many old lifts are modernised several times rather than replaced.
