Description
WPC decking market Germany: decking area and forecast to 2031
How is the WPC decking market in Germany developing? The dataset shows sales of WPC decking boards as decking area in million m² for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast. The figures cover domestic demand including imported boards.
WPC (wood-plastic composite) combines wood fibres, mostly from sawmill residues, with polyethylene or polypropylene and additives. Hollow-core or solid profiles are laid on terraces, balconies and pool surrounds. Timber decking, the direct competitor, is excluded, as are WPC substructures, cladding profiles and fences. Concrete and natural stone slabs form a separate dataset.
WPC is mainly a private garden and DIY market: most of the area comes from replacing old timber decks with low-maintenance WPC boards, only a small part from new build. Non-residential use is mainly in hospitality. Demand therefore reacts strongly to consumer sentiment – the garden boom of the pandemic years was followed by a marked decline. After a slight recovery, flat growth is expected. Timber decking, concrete and natural stone slabs and ceramics compete for the same terrace area.
Which questions about the WPC decking market does the dataset answer?
- How far has demand for WPC boards fallen since the garden boom, and when does it stabilise?
- What share comes from renovation of existing buildings compared with new build?
- How is the WPC area laid split between residential and non-residential buildings?
- In which quarters are seasonal sales concentrated, and how do they develop up to 2031?
Who is the dataset for?
WPC decking manufacturers and importers use the series to plan production, purchasing and seasonal stock; suppliers of wood fibres, polymer granulate and additives estimate their demand. DIY stores and merchants manage ranges and inventory. Landscapers and deck installers assess order potential; analysts compare decking materials.
Data basis and methodology
The data separate new build and renovation by residential and non-residential buildings, plus the total market. The model links building completions, building permits and renovation activity with parameters such as terrace and balcony area per m² of floor area, the WPC share and the deck replacement rate. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Terrace slab (concrete/natural stone), Concrete paving stone, Twin wire mesh fence and all data on structural work, load-bearing structure and outdoor facilities.
