Description
Washbasin market Germany: sales in million units and forecast to 2031
How is the washbasin market in Germany developing? The series reports sales of washbasins and hand basins in million units, quarter by quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.
All materials are counted: mostly sanitary ceramics, plus steel-enamel, solid surface, glass, natural stone and wood – direct substitutes within one range. Designs include wall-hung and pedestal basins, vanity units on a base cabinet, countertop vessel basins and small hand basins. Uses range from main and guest bathrooms to hotels, restaurants, offices, schools and hospitals. Taps and toilets are separate datasets.
Next to the WC, the washbasin is the key fixture of every wet room and its main design element. Swapping it only affects supply and drain, so it is renewed far more often than the toilet; vanity units change together with their cabinet. The segment grows slightly faster than toilets, as material variety opens extra price tiers and vessel basins and furniture combinations shorten replacement intervals. Demand mainly tracks private bathroom renovation: after weak years and a slight recovery, the model expects a short-term dip followed by an upswing, while the new-build share keeps falling.
Which questions about the washbasin market does the dataset answer?
- How do washbasin sales develop between 2021 and 2031?
- How far does renovation outweigh new build for washbasins, and how does the ratio shift?
- What share of washbasins goes into non-residential rather than residential buildings?
- How do volumes spread across quarters in new build and renovation?
Who is the dataset for?
Makers of ceramics, solid surface basins and bathroom furniture plan production and ranges; tap suppliers use it as a volume base. Wholesalers, DIY stores and online retailers plan stock, installers and interior designers project demand, and analysts track the design-driven side of bathroom fit-out.
Data basis and methodology
Figures cover the total market, new build versus renovation and housing versus non-residential use. Units derive from building completions, permits and modernisation activity via basins per wet room, wet rooms per m² and a cross-material replacement cycle. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Washbasin mixer tap (single lever), Toilet ceramics (floor/wall-mounted), PP wastewater pipe (HT/KG) and all data on sanitary, water and accessibility.
