Description
Rainscreen cladding market Germany: installed system area and forecast to 2031
How is the rainscreen cladding market in Germany developing? The dataset quantifies demand for ventilated rainscreen facades as installed system area in million m² of clad facade for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.
A rainscreen facade has three layers: aluminium, steel or timber rails on brackets, insulation – usually mineral wool, increasingly wood fibre – and an outer cladding, with a continuous air gap that drains moisture and keeps the insulation dry. Only substructure and insulation are counted; claddings such as fibre cement, high-pressure laminate (HPL) or metal are separate datasets, so no area is counted twice. Bonded external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) are also covered separately.
Rainscreen systems are the premium end of facade insulation: dearer than ETICS but durable, low-maintenance, open to any cladding, dismantlable and compatible with photovoltaics or greenery. Offices, administrative and educational buildings are therefore their stronghold; industrial halls mostly use sandwich panels, trapezoidal sheeting or precast concrete. The 2023 slump in non-residential new build hit the system harder than ETICS. Long-planned major projects and renovation pressure from the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) stabilise demand; recovery then tracks construction. An ageing stock is not yet a renovation driver within the forecast period.
Which questions about the rainscreen cladding market does the dataset answer?
- How far did installed system area fall in the downturn, and when does recovery set in?
- How much weight does non-residential construction carry versus housing?
- How much area goes on new buildings and how much on facade refurbishment?
- How can in-house sales and capacity planning be checked against the quarterly series to 2031?
Who is the dataset for?
Makers of substructures, brackets and fixings, insulation suppliers and panel manufacturers plan capacity and sales. Facade contractors and distributors gauge orders, architects weigh system choices, and analysts build market models.
Data basis and methodology
Data cover the total and the split by new build/renovation and residential/non-residential. The model links completions, permits and refurbishment activity with facade area and the ventilated-system share per segment; a three-quarter lag reflects late facade installation. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Fibre cement facade panels, Metal cassette panels (aluminium/steel), External thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) with mineral wool and all data on facades.
