USB wall charger market Germany: sales in thousand units and forecast to 2031

How is the USB wall charger market in Germany developing? The series reports domestic sales of flush-mounted sockets with a USB charging port in thousand units, for each quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

It counts flush-mounted combinations of mains socket and USB port as well as pure USB charging outlets, today mostly Type C with Power Delivery (USB-PD), increasingly combined with Type A. These devices come from the same switch ranges as the Schuko socket but cost several times as much, forming a premium niche for bedsides, desks, worktops and hotel rooms. Power strips, plug-in chargers and surface-mounted commercial versions are excluded.

The main impetus is the EU common charger rule, which has made USB Type C the standard since late 2024 and creates a replacement market for older Type A outlets. The USB share of the socket market is therefore rising markedly. Detached houses get USB outlets far more often than apartments built by cost-conscious developers; in non-residential buildings, hotel rooms are among the typical locations. Renovation accounts for most demand.

Which questions about the USB wall charger market does the dataset answer?

  • How fast do USB socket sales grow from 2021 to 2031, and in which years is growth strongest?
  • What share goes into new buildings, and what share into renovation?
  • How do residential and non-residential buildings compare in USB socket sales?
  • How does the new-build share change while completions remain weak?

Who is the dataset for?

Switch range suppliers use it for range and capacity planning, makers of charging electronics for volume planning. Wholesalers and online retailers manage high-priced items, electricians and interior designers gauge their potential with homeowners and hotel operators, and analysts track a fast-growing niche of building electrics.

Data basis and methodology

New build and renovation, residential and non-residential buildings are shown separately and as a total. The model combines completions, permits and modernisation work with USB sockets per dwelling by building type, a weighted density per m² of non-residential space, the renewal rate and a trend for the rising share. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Schuko socket (flush-mounted), Dimmer (flush-mounted), Smart home hub / gateway and all data on electrical, smart building and security.
