Description

Trapezoidal sheet market Germany: consumption in million m² and forecast to 2031

How is the trapezoidal sheet market in Germany developing? The dataset provides consumption of trapezoidal sheets and steel deck in German building construction in million m² of profile area for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

The dataset covers thin-walled profiled steel elements – trapezoidal, corrugated and liner tray profiles and steel deck, galvanised or coated, CE-marked to EN 1090-1. The elements serve as roof covering and roof deck, load-bearing wall and facade cladding, and permanent formwork in composite floors. Sandwich panels with trapezoidal facings are partly included; aluminium profiles and sheet for farm outbuildings are not core.

The main market is industrial, commercial and logistics halls, usually on a steel frame; housing with pitched roofs and masonry uses practically none. Demand therefore follows non-residential construction, which proved more resilient than housing in the downturn. A substantial, stable share comes from refurbishing existing hall roofs and facades, so the decline to 2025 is milder than for shell materials; a moderate recovery follows from 2026. Lightweight steel competes with solid construction; fast, light, recyclable building and roofs serving as a base for rooftop photovoltaics support demand.

Which questions about the trapezoidal sheet market does the dataset answer?

  • How many square metres of profiled sheet are installed each quarter up to 2031?
  • What share does renovation hold compared with new build?
  • How concentrated is consumption on non-residential buildings?
  • From which quarter does demand recover after the decline?

Who is the dataset for?

Roll formers and producers of trapezoidal and sandwich elements use it to plan sales and line utilisation, coil coaters and steel service centres to plan coil volumes. Roofing and cladding contractors, hall builders, merchants, fixing suppliers and analysts use the series for planning.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset shows the total market and its split by new build/renovation and residential/non-residential buildings. The model links completions, permits and renovation activity with profile area per square metre of floor area, the share of suitable buildings and an envelope installation lead time. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.
