Description
Patio slab market Germany: sales of concrete and natural stone slabs and forecast to 2031
How is the patio slab market in Germany developing? The dataset reports domestic sales of concrete and natural stone terrace slabs in million m² of laid area for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031, as historical market data and forecast.
The dataset covers concrete slabs from standard to large format and natural stone slabs made of granite, sandstone, limestone, quartzite and travertine. The slabs are laid on terraces, garden paths, house surrounds and bin stores, and at restaurants, offices and entrances. Public pavement slabs, which belong to civil engineering, and porcelain stoneware slabs, counted as tiles, are excluded. Pavers and decking boards made of wood or wood-plastic composite (WPC) are separate markets.
Replacement shapes the market: old exposed-aggregate slabs are renewed and rotten timber decks swapped for durable slabs, so renovation dominates. New-build demand depends on single-family housing; the terrace is often built only after moving in. After the pandemic garden boom, sales fell markedly as prices rose sharply. Natural stone is losing share as imports became more expensive and large-format concrete and porcelain slabs displace it. After an upturn in 2025, demand grows moderately with modernisation and new build; seasonality follows outdoor work.
Which questions about the patio slab market does the dataset answer?
- How large are concrete and natural stone slab sales in new build and existing buildings?
- How is laid slab area split between residential and non-residential buildings?
- How is demand normalising after the pandemic garden boom?
- How pronounced is the seasonality of terrace work across quarters?
Who is the dataset for?
The dataset is aimed at concrete plants, natural stone importers, suppliers of cement, aggregates and bedding mortar, merchants, DIY stores and landscapers. Makers of competing coverings, investors and analysts use it for market monitoring and sales planning.
Data basis and methodology
The series is split by new build/renovation and residential/non-residential buildings, plus the total market. The model links completions, permits and renovation activity with parameters such as terrace and path area per m² of floor area, the share of concrete and natural stone in that area, and the renewal rate of the stock. The model was validated against industry association statistics, official statistics and internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: WPC decking board, Concrete paving stone, Twin wire mesh fence and all data on structural work, load-bearing structure and outdoor facilities.
