Mineral interior paint market Germany: consumption and forecast to 2031

How is the mineral interior paint market in Germany developing? The dataset records interior silicate paint consumption in million litres for each quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

Silicate paint uses potassium water glass as its binder. The paint bonds chemically with the substrate through silicification and outlasts a dispersion film. The coating is vapour-permeable, mould-inhibiting thanks to high alkalinity, solvent- and plasticiser-free, lightfast and non-combustible – but adheres only to mineral substrates such as lime plaster, concrete or stone, never to wood, wallpaper, old dispersion paint or gypsum. Only interior uses count, additional to dispersion paint; exterior silicate coatings are excluded.

Main uses are heritage conservation, allergy-friendly homes, hospitals, nurseries, schools and eco-building, hence a high non-residential weight. Gypsum plaster and plasterboard limit use in new housing; older stock offers more scope. Demand fell less than dispersion paint in the downturn, as heritage and eco-building are less cyclical. Sustainability, allergy awareness, mould in old buildings and heritage spending point to the strongest growth among the interior paints covered.

Which questions about the mineral interior paint market does the dataset answer?

  • How does consumption of interior silicate paint split between new build and renovation?
  • What weight do non-residential buildings carry in demand for mineral interior coatings?
  • From when does demand grow again, and how strongly does it rise up to 2031?
  • How is consumption spread across the quarters of each year?

Who is the dataset for?

Mineral paint producers assess indoor potential, suppliers of water glass and inorganic pigments their sales outlook. Merchants plan heritage and eco ranges, restorers and specialist decorators gauge orders, and architects, operators and analysts gain a benchmark for mineral interior coatings.

Data basis and methodology

Separate series show new build and renovation in residential and non-residential buildings, next to the total. The calculation links completions, permits and modernisation volume to wall and ceiling area per m² of floor space, extra material for fixative and double coats, the share of mineral substrates and renovation intervals by building type. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Dispersion paint (interior), Washable / heavy-duty interior paint, Primer / penetrating primer and all data on paints, construction chemicals and fastening.
