Shower tray market Germany: demand in million units and forecast to 2031

How is the shower tray market in Germany developing? The dataset quantifies demand for shower trays and shower boards in million units for each quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

The dataset includes ready-made trays and boards in all materials: premium steel-enamel, cheaper acrylic popular in DIY retail, solid surface, stone and ceramics, from 90×90 cm corner units to large walk-in formats. Floor-level boards need very little build-up height. Tiled level-access showers without a ready-made board are excluded, being waterproofing and tiles rather than a sanitary product.

Replacing a tray means breaking out tiles and renewing waterproofing and screed, so in partial refurbishments it often stays while basin, taps and tiles change. Still, the product is a growth driver: the floor-level share rises markedly, driven by accessible bathrooms under DIN 18040, demographic change and premium design. In new build, level-access solutions have almost replaced classic high trays, and they keep gaining share in renovation – though part of this shift goes to tiled solutions not covered here.

Which questions about the shower tray market does the dataset answer?

  • How do sales of shower trays and boards develop from 2021 to 2031?
  • How many trays and boards are fitted in refurbishments and how many in new build?
  • What share of shower tray demand comes from non-residential buildings?
  • When does demand bottom out, and how strongly does it grow afterwards?

Who is the dataset for?

Tray makers in steel-enamel, acrylic and solid surface steer capacity and product mix; suppliers of drains, waterproofing and shower enclosures derive follow-on demand. Wholesalers and DIY stores plan ranges, tilers and installers their capacity for shower conversions, and care home operators, investors and analysts assess the market for low-barrier bathrooms.

Data basis and methodology

Besides the total market, sub-series for new build, renovation, residential and non-residential use are provided. Shower places per wet room, a long replacement cycle reflecting costly removal and the growing floor-level share are applied to building completions, permits and refurbishment activity. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Shower channel / floor drain, Shower fitting / shower system, Floor-level shower (complete system) and all data on sanitary, water and accessibility.
