Description

Plug socket market Germany: demand in million units and forecast to 2031

How is the plug socket market in Germany developing? The dataset quantifies domestic demand for flush-mounted Schuko (earthed) sockets in million units, for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

It covers the earthed socket to German standard DIN 49440 for flush mounting, counted per insert without frames or cover plates. Multiple combinations, damp-room and outdoor sockets and child-proof or hinged-lid versions are included; USB charging sockets (a separate dataset), CEE connectors, data outlets, power strips and portable distribution units are not. Sockets go into virtually every room, from kitchens and cellars to offices, schools and hotels.

In new build, DIN 18015-2 sets a minimum per room, bed positions and kitchen worktops get double sockets, and private homeowners choose higher specifications than developers. Halls and warehouses lower the density in non-residential buildings. Most demand comes from the stock: many installations have outlived their service life without renewal, and bathroom and kitchen refurbishments plus replacement after defects or tenant changes add volume. More household appliances gradually raise the number of sockets per dwelling. As completions only bottom out in 2026, renovation carries the subsequent recovery.

Which questions about the plug socket market does the dataset answer?

  • How many Schuko sockets go into new buildings each quarter, and how many into renovating existing installations?
  • What share of socket demand comes from residential, and what share from non-residential buildings?
  • When does socket demand reach its trough, and what growth follows up to 2031?
  • Which quarters see the most socket installations?

Who is the dataset for?

Manufacturers of switch ranges plan output and sales targets, component suppliers their volumes. Electrical wholesalers and DIY stores manage stock, electricians and building services engineers gauge order potential, and analysts gain an indicator of rewiring activity.

Data basis and methodology

Besides the total market, the series distinguishes new build from renovation, both broken down into residential and non-residential buildings. Completions, permits and renovation activity are linked with sockets per dwelling by equipment level, a density per m² weighted by building type and the renewal rate of installations in the stock. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: USB socket (flush-mounted), Light switch (flush-mounted, rocker/push), NYM installation cable and all data on electrical, smart building and security.
