Roller shutter market Germany: sales in million units and forecast to 2031

How is the roller shutter market in Germany developing? The dataset provides sales of front-mounted and top-mounted roller shutters in million units for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

A roller shutter is a curtain of roll-formed, foam-filled aluminium or PVC slats that winds into a box above the window. Top-mounted units sit as an insulated box on the window frame and are fitted with the window; front-mounted units are fixed to the facade and serve as the retrofit solution. The closed curtain blacks out fully, buffers heat at night and hinders break-ins. External venetian blinds, screens, awnings, interior shading and shutters are excluded.

As the highest-volume shading product, most sales arise in existing homes: with window replacement, when worn curtains are renewed, and through retrofits. Demand therefore reacts only moderately to the new build slump, which also feeds through with a delay after permits. Replacement is price-sensitive: when purchasing power is squeezed and producer prices rise, working units stay in service longer. The roller shutter remains standard on bedroom windows but loses share to external venetian blinds in premium new build because it cannot redirect daylight.

Which questions about the roller shutter market does the dataset answer?

  • How many roller shutters go into renovation and how many into new buildings?
  • How are roller shutter sales split between residential and non-residential buildings?
  • When do sales reach their trough, and how does the recovery to 2031 unfold?
  • How are unit sales spread across the quarters, and how does this fit with in-house capacity planning?

Who is the dataset for?

Profile, box and motor suppliers plan capacity with the series; producers of aluminium strip, PVC compounds and foam derive demand. Shutter installers, window makers with top-mounted systems and dealers gain a basis for sales planning, investors and analysts a valuation reference.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset contains the total market split by new build/renovation and residential/non-residential buildings. The model draws on building completions, building permits and window renovation, linked to window units per square metre, the shading rate per segment and the roller shutter share of all curtains. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: External venetian blind, Fabric screen / vertical awning, PVC-U windows and all data on windows, doors and sun protection.
