Ready-mix concrete market Germany: consumption in million m³ and forecast to 2031

How is the ready-mix concrete market in Germany developing? The dataset provides the consumption of ready-mixed concrete in German building construction in million m³ for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

The dataset covers ready-mixed concrete (fresh concrete), batched at the plant and delivered by truck mixer. As it can neither be stored nor traded, production equals domestic consumption. Typical uses are ground slabs, foundations, floor slabs and walls cast in situ and the infill of lattice girder slabs and double walls. Civil engineering (roads, bridges, utility works) and precast elements are excluded.

Demand depends mainly on new build: almost every new building needs foundations and a ground slab, placed during the shell phase well before completion. Non-residential buildings are more concrete-intensive per square metre owing to reinforced concrete frames, longer spans, underground car parks and industrial floors. After the sharp slump of 2023–2024, the decline eases in 2025. In existing buildings, ready-mixed concrete plays only a minor role (new ground slabs, foundation strengthening, storey additions); energy-efficiency retrofits need almost no fresh concrete. Prefabrication shifts concrete to the factory, dampened by semi-precast slabs and double walls filled on site.

Which questions about the ready-mix concrete market does the dataset answer?

  • How sharply did consumption fall during the downturn, and how does it develop to 2031?
  • What share of concrete volume goes into residential versus non-residential buildings?
  • How large is renovation demand for fresh concrete compared with new build?
  • In which quarter does consumption bottom out?

Who is the dataset for?

Ready-mixed concrete plants use the series for capacity, site and fleet planning, suppliers of cement, aggregates and admixtures for sales planning. Contractors, merchants, investors and analysts gain a consistent volume basis for models and valuations.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset shows the total market and its split by new build/renovation and residential/non-residential buildings. The model combines building completions, building permits and renovation activity with concrete volume per square metre of floor area by building type, a low usage rate in renovation and a shell construction lead time. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Precast concrete elements (slabs, walls, stairs), Reinforcing steel (rebar), Structural precast concrete elements (columns, beams, girders) and all data on structural work, load-bearing structure and outdoor facilities.
