Description
Circuit breaker market Germany: device demand in million units and forecast to 2031
How is the circuit breaker market in Germany developing? The series measures building installation demand for residual current devices and miniature circuit breakers in million units, quarter-accurate from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.
Included are DIN-rail modular devices: miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) against overload and short circuit, residual current devices (RCDs) against dangerous shock currents, combined devices and arc fault detection devices, included because they share the rail and are priced with the board. Surge protection, fuses, switch disconnectors and all devices in machinery control cabinets are excluded – that is where most domestic production goes, often for export.
Demand follows the number of protected circuits. Since 2007, socket circuits in dwellings must be protected by a 30 mA RCD, and every flat needs a row of MCBs depending on size. Electrification keeps adding circuits: heat pumps, photovoltaic feed-in and charging points each get separate protection, and wallboxes require all-current-sensitive Type B RCDs. Non-residential demand is relatively high owing to many separate units and large boards. Devices are mounted in the final fit-out phase.
Which questions about the circuit breaker market does the dataset answer?
- How many protective devices are installed in buildings per quarter, split by new build and renovation?
- How is device demand divided between residential and non-residential buildings?
- From which year does demand for RCDs and MCBs pick up again, and what level does it reach in 2031?
- How does the weight of device demand shift between new build and renovation?
Who is the dataset for?
Suppliers of modular devices size their building business separately from industrial business, makers of contacts, trip units and housings plan their batches. Wholesalers stock protection for electrification projects, designers and inspectors assess retrofit needs, and analysts track a growing segment of building technology.
Data basis and methodology
Values cover new build and renovation within residential and non-residential construction, plus their sum. Completions, building permits and refurbishment work are converted into protective devices per dwelling and per m² of usable area; the model accounts for renewing old installations and adds circuits from building electrification. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Sub-distribution / consumer unit, NYM installation cable, KNX actuator (switch/dim/blind) and all data on electrical, smart building and security.
