Description

Solar mounting system market Germany: supported module capacity in MWp and forecast to 2031

How is the solar mounting system market in Germany developing? The dataset measures demand for rooftop substructures carrying photovoltaic (PV) modules by supported capacity in MWp (megawatt peak), quarter by quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031, as historical market data and forecast.

On pitched roofs a system consists of roof hooks, mounting rails and module clamps in aluminium or stainless steel; on flat roofs of south or east-west racks, ballasted or anchored. The unit reflects trade practice: manufacturers and wholesalers price per kWp (kilowatt peak), and a kit is not standardised. Coverage matches pitched and flat roof module capacity exactly. In-roof and facade substructures belong to building-integrated PV; ground-mount racks, carports and plug-in solar brackets are excluded.

Every mounting system is installed with its array, so demand follows rooftop additions and funding policy rather than the construction cycle; retrofits dominate. After the peak driven by the energy price crisis and the 2023 Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), additions normalised, partly due to the Solar Peak Act; from 2027 the end of fixed feed-in tariffs for new installations dampens retrofits, with a recovery expected afterwards. State solar obligations and the EU buildings directive support new build. More powerful modules cut material per kWp, changing tonnage, not MWp.

Which questions about the solar mounting system market does the dataset answer?

  • What share of substructure demand comes from retrofits on existing buildings?
  • How is supported capacity split between residential and non-residential?
  • How does the new-build share of mounting systems develop to 2031?
  • When is the low point after the 2023 peak, and when does demand recover?

Who is the dataset for?

Rail, hook and racking makers and aluminium profile suppliers plan capacity and input material. Wholesalers manage stock, installers and roofers their crews. Investors and analysts use the series as a direct indicator of building-mounted PV.

Data basis and methodology

The series covers new build and renovation, separately for residential and non-residential construction, plus the sum. The model converts completions, permits and modernised floor area via module output per m², PV equipment of new buildings and the stock retrofit rate. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: PV module pitched roof (on-roof), PV module flat roof, Building-integrated PV (in-roof, solar tiles, facade) and all data on heating, ventilation, air conditioning and energy.
