Description

Light switch market Germany: volumes in million units and forecast to 2031

How is the light switch market in Germany developing? The dataset captures flush-mounted switches installed in buildings in million units, quarter by quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

It includes one-way, two-way, intermediate and double switches, push-buttons and shutter or blind switches, as rocker or push version, counted per insert. Dimmers, KNX and smart home bus push-buttons, motion and presence detectors and industrial switches are excluded. Guidelines assign a switching point to every room entrance and bed position, so a detached house needs far more switches than an apartment.

Unlike sockets, a structural shift dampens volumes: in premium and non-residential buildings KNX push-buttons replace the classic rocker, and motion detectors in corridors make some switching points redundant, so switches per socket decline gradually. Halls and circulation areas keep non-residential density low. Most sales come from the stock – full rewiring, bathroom and kitchen remodelling and replacing switches worn out after two to four decades.

Which questions about the light switch market does the dataset answer?

  • How many switches and push-buttons are fitted per quarter in new buildings, and how many in renovation?
  • What weight do residential and non-residential buildings carry in switch sales?
  • In which year do switch volumes bottom out, and how far do they recover by 2031?
  • How are installations spread across the four quarters of a year?

Who is the dataset for?

Producers of switch series plan plant capacity and sales targets, plastics and spring suppliers their deliveries. Wholesalers and DIY chains plan stock turnover and design ranges, electrical contractors and building services planners gauge their order potential, and analysts track the renewal of building electrics in the existing stock.

Data basis and methodology

The total market is shown with its segments new build and renovation, subdivided into residential and non-residential. Volumes derive from completions, permits and modernisations multiplied by switching points per dwelling, a weighted density for non-residential space and the renewal rate; a structural factor captures substitution by bus technology. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: KNX sensor / push-button sensor, Dimmer (flush-mounted), Motor drive (shutter/blind) and all data on electrical, smart building and security.
