Description
Gypsum plaster market Germany: demand in thousand tonnes and forecast to 2031
How is the gypsum plaster market in Germany developing? The dataset gauges demand for factory-made dry-mix interior plaster in thousand tonnes, broken down by quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.
Interior plaster turns the shell into a smooth surface ready for paint or wallpaper and is the first trade after rough electrical and plumbing installation. Machine-applied gypsum plaster, standard in modern housing, makes up the largest part; lime-gypsum plaster serves damp rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens, pure lime plaster the refurbishment of old buildings, alongside clay and special plasters. Excluded are exterior render, gypsum and gypsum fibre boards, fillers, screeds, self-levelling compounds and masonry mortar.
Interior plaster depends more on new build than any other mortar product, as walls are rarely fully replastered: demand stems from layout changes, gutting, water damage, removed tiling and filled cable chases. Its main rival is plasterboard drywall, dominant in non-residential buildings for flexible layouts and service routing; prefabricated wall elements in apartment blocks are an added downside risk. The housing slump hit hard, and recovery is subdued because volumes grow only with floor area.
Which questions about the gypsum plaster market does the dataset answer?
- When does plaster demand bottom out after the fall in housing completions?
- How does the weight shift between new build and existing stock?
- What volume remains in non-residential buildings dominated by drywall partitions?
- How is plaster demand spread across the quarters of a year?
Who is the dataset for?
Plaster plants plan capacity, silo logistics and sites, suppliers of gypsum, lime and additives their raw materials. Merchants and machine-rental firms manage stock and fleets, plasterers estimate workload, and drywall suppliers and analysts gain a benchmark for interior finishing.
Data basis and methodology
Data cover the total market and four segments: new build and renovation, residential and non-residential. Volumes rest on wall area to be plastered per m² of floor space times material per m² of wall, combined with completions, permits, modernisation, the plaster share versus drywall and installation ahead of completion. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Primer / penetrating primer, Dispersion paint (interior), Tile adhesive (thin/medium bed) and all data on paints, construction chemicals and fastening.
