HPL cladding market Germany: laminate panel sales and forecast to 2031

How is the HPL cladding market in Germany developing? The dataset tracks sales of high-pressure laminate (HPL) facade panels in million m² of panel area sold, including offcuts, for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

HPL panels consist mainly of wood fibres compressed under high pressure with phenolic and melamine resins. The dataset covers sheets and panels for the building envelope: cladding on ventilated rainscreen facades and balcony balustrades. Laminates for furniture, laboratory worktops and interior fit-out are excluded. Cutting waste from large-format sheets is included. Substructure, insulation and competing fibre cement or metal claddings are separate datasets.

HPL is the design and premium segment among facade panels: a wide colour range, large formats and crisp edges suit ambitious architecture. Before the downturn HPL grew faster than any other rainscreen cladding, and it keeps gaining share, partly from rendered facades. The high price makes private refurbishment vulnerable in a crisis, while commercial new build stays robust. After the 2023 slump and a sideways phase until 2025, design-driven demand lets sales recover above average as new build revives. Non-residential construction remains the core.

Which questions about the HPL cladding market does the dataset answer?

  • How strongly did premium panel sales react to the downturn, and how strong is the recovery to 2031?
  • How do new build and renovation compare?
  • How much panel area goes to residential and how much to non-residential buildings?
  • In which year is the trough, and how does the later trend fit in-house press and sales planning?

Who is the dataset for?

Laminate producers plan press capacity and decors; resin and wood fibre suppliers estimate demand. Facade and balcony builders, fabricators and merchants plan purchasing, architects follow material trends, and analysts and investors assess growth and market position.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset covers the total market and the split by new build and renovation and by residential and non-residential. Ventilated facade area derived from building completions, building permits and refurbishment activity is multiplied by the HPL share per segment, a balcony allowance and a cutting-waste factor. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Ventilated rainscreen facade, Fibre cement facade panels, Timber cladding (boards/rhombus profiles) and all data on facades.
