Description
Tile grout market Germany: domestic use in thousand tonnes and forecast to 2031
How is the tile grout market in Germany developing? The figures measure domestic use of grout and joint filler for tiled and natural stone surfaces in thousand tonnes, covering all quarters from Q1/2021 through Q4/2031 and available as historical market data and forecast.
Grout fills the gaps between laid tiles, seals the surface against water and dirt, absorbs movement and shapes its look. It is applied once the adhesive has set, usually the next day. Under DIN EN 13888, cement-based CG1 leads ahead of polymer-improved CG2, complemented by epoxy grouts for bathrooms, pools and commercial kitchens. Silicone and acrylic sealants for movement joints, paving grout and masonry pointing are excluded.
Demand rests on the same tiled area as adhesive, so bathroom and refit work in the stock dominates while weak completions squeeze new build. Geometry works against volume: larger formats shorten joint length per square metre, and rectified porcelain edges allow narrower joints. Dense resin grouts and the trend towards coloured, visible joints partly offset this, so recovery is flatter than for adhesive.
Which questions about the tile grout market does the dataset answer?
- How does grout consumption develop from the trough to 2031?
- What share does renovation of the existing stock hold compared with new build?
- How is demand divided between residential and non-residential buildings?
- How is consumption spread over the year when renovation grouting continues in winter?
Who is the dataset for?
Construction chemicals producers plan production and sales; suppliers of pigments, binders and epoxy resins derive their demand. Tile retailers and DIY stores manage stock, and tilers plan their workload. Analysts and investors use the series as an indicator for tiled interior work.
Data basis and methodology
The time series separates residential from non-residential buildings and new build from renovation, plus the total market. It starts from completions, permits and modernisation volume, converted via tile coverage relative to floor area, a format-driven declining grout demand per square metre and the renewal rate of tiled surfaces. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Tile adhesive (thin/medium bed), Silicone sealant, Bathroom waterproofing membrane and all data on paints, construction chemicals and fastening.
