Description
Grab rail market Germany: demand in thousand units and forecast to 2031
How is the grab rail market in Germany developing? The dataset gives domestic demand for bathroom and WC grab rails in thousand units, every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast, counting each rail separately.
Covered are fixed rails of any material: wall rails, angled rails at shower and bath and hinged WC support rails to DIN 18040, the German standard for accessible building. Mobile aids such as bath lifts, shower stools or suction-cup rails and handrails in corridors and stairwells are excluded. Uses range from private bathrooms and assisted living to accessible WCs in care homes, hospitals and public buildings.
Retrofitting dominates: rails are mostly installed when needed, in an age-friendly bathroom refurbishment or without rebuilding, often funded by the care insurance grant for home adaptations under German Social Code XI (SGB XI). As rails are durable, most sales are first installations, not replacements. Even accessible new flats often receive only wall reinforcement. DIN 18040-1 requires several rails in accessible non-residential WCs, giving this segment unusual weight. An ageing population and precautionary, design-led fitting make demand grow much faster than refurbishment overall; bathroom cycles have only a muted effect.
Which questions about the grab rail market does the dataset answer?
- How many rails are fitted in bathrooms and WCs per quarter?
- How many grab and support rails go into renovation and how many into new build?
- How much weight do non-residential buildings with their accessible WCs carry against housing?
- How strongly does demand for rails grow up to 2031?
Who is the dataset for?
Sanitary and care equipment makers plan ranges with it, component suppliers their volumes. Wholesalers, medical supply stores and DIY chains steer purchasing, installers see potential in age-friendly conversions, and care home operators, housing companies and analysts gain a volume basis.
Data basis and methodology
Figures distinguish new build from renovation and housing from non-residential construction, with a total. The model links completions, permits and refurbishment with bathroom and WC places per m² of floor space, rails per equipped place and an equipment rate rising with demographics. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.
Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Toilet ceramics (floor/wall-mounted), Floor-level shower (complete system), Shower tray / shower board and all data on sanitary, water and accessibility.
