Level-access shower market Germany: demand and forecast to 2031

How is the level-access shower market in Germany developing? This dataset provides demand for tileable floor-level shower systems in thousand units for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

A complete system comprises a prefabricated shower element with built-in fall, a matching channel or point drain and waterproofing accessories; it is installed flush with the floor and then tiled. Finished shower trays and boards and tiled showers with an individually screeded fall are excluded. As the drain is part of the system, these drains also appear in the shower channel / floor drain dataset; the two series must not be added.

Floor-level shower systems are mainly a renovation product: bathroom refurbishments replace old high-entry trays, often where there is too little build-up height for a screed with fall. In non-residential buildings, care homes, hospitals and hotels dominate, as DIN 18040-1 requires barrier-free showers there. After a peak during the bathroom boom, demand fell with bathroom renovation and shrinking funding for accessibility conversions. Long term, the ageing population lets the systems outgrow overall renovation activity.

Which questions about the level-access shower market does the dataset answer?

  • How does demand for floor-level shower systems develop from 2021 to 2031?
  • How many systems are installed in renovations compared with new construction?
  • What share do non-residential buildings account for compared with residential buildings?
  • How are installations distributed over the quarters of a year?

Who is the dataset for?

Suppliers of shower elements and drainage technology plan capacity and sales; makers of tiles, waterproofing and grab rails estimate follow-on demand. Wholesalers, tilers, installers and bathroom renovators plan ranges and capacity for barrier-free conversions, while housing companies, care home operators and analysts assess age-appropriate housing.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset shows the total market plus new build and renovation, each residential and non-residential. The model links building completions and modernisation activity with shower places per m² of floor area, the share of shower places with a complete system and the renewal rate in the existing stock; a demographic index raises this share over time. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.
