Description
Mineral wool ETICS market Germany: demand in million m² system area and forecast to 2031
How is the mineral wool ETICS market in Germany developing? The dataset provides demand for external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) with mineral wool in million m² of system area for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.
The dataset counts installed ETICS area insulated with mineral wool – almost only stone wool slabs and lamellas, rigid enough to carry adhesive, mesh and render. Main uses are apartment blocks and high-rise buildings in building classes 4 and 5, plus fire barriers. Other insulants and rainscreen facades are separate datasets.
Fire safety is decisive: where non-combustible class A1 materials are required, stone wool is practically the only choice, which, together with the German Buildings Energy Act (GEG), secures a minimum market and a slowly growing ETICS share. Demand fell more steeply than construction in the downturn, as apartment and new-build projects were hit hardest; subsidy cuts and soaring costs depressed all ETICS. Energy retrofits and future obligations under the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) carry the recovery. New-build volumes lag permits, as facades come late.
Which questions about the mineral wool ETICS market does the dataset answer?
- How far has stone wool ETICS demand fallen since 2022, and when is the trough?
- How much system area comes from facade retrofits and how much from new buildings?
- How is demand split between residential and non-residential buildings?
- How strongly does the area grow after the trough, and does that match in-house capacity plans?
Who is the dataset for?
Stone wool producers plan slab and lamella capacity, system suppliers their ranges. Plasterers, facade designers and fire safety consultants plan workloads, merchants purchasing; housing companies, investors and analysts gauge retrofit momentum.
Data basis and methodology
Figures cover the total market, new build versus renovation and residential versus non-residential. The model links completions, permits and renovation activity with ETICS-suitable facade per m² of floor area, lower in non-residential buildings due to glazing and sandwich panels, and the mineral wool share per segment. The model results were cross-checked against official statistics, industry association data and internal surveys.
