Wall plug market Germany: plastic expansion plugs in million units and forecast to 2031

How is the wall plug market in Germany developing? The dataset quantifies sales of plastic expansion and multi-purpose plugs in million units for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031 – as historical market data and forecast.

The plastic expansion plug is the standard fixing for light and medium loads: when screwed in, it expands and wedges in the hole. Diameters of 5 to 14 millimetres in nylon or polyethylene are common; multi-purpose plugs adapt to the substrate. Uses include substructures, cable ducts, pipe clips, sanitary fittings, lights, shelves and kitchen units. Metal anchors and cavity fixings, insulation plate dowels, injection anchors, screws and nails are excluded.

Most demand comes from existing buildings: full refurbishments, bathroom and kitchen remodelling and the routine needs of occupied homes. A large share is sold through DIY stores. New homes use plugs twice – first by electrical, plumbing and drywall trades, then when residents move in. New build contributes little, and the renovation share keeps rising up to 2030.

Which questions about the wall plug market does the dataset answer?

  • How many plastic plugs are installed per quarter, and how seasonal is demand?
  • How much does renovation of the housing stock add compared with new build?
  • How deep was the decline after the early peak, and when does growth resume?
  • What weight do non-residential buildings carry in plastic plug demand?

Who is the dataset for?

Plug manufacturers and plastic granulate suppliers plan capacity and raw materials. DIY chains and merchants plan ranges and promotions; electrical, plumbing and drywall contractors gauge installation volume. Investors and analysts gain a unit-based measure of renovation activity.

Data basis and methodology

The dataset shows the total market and new build and renovation, each split into residential and non-residential. Completions, permits and modernisation activity are combined with plugs per new dwelling, per m² of non-residential floor area and per modernised unit; the time profile also follows official production data. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values.
