Description

Calcium silicate masonry market Germany: sales of calcium silicate units and forecast to 2031

How is the calcium silicate masonry market in Germany developing? The dataset shows sales of calcium silicate units, including precision blocks, in million m³ of masonry for every quarter from Q1/2021 to Q4/2031, as historical market data and forecast.

The dataset covers load-bearing masonry made of lime and sand with high density, high compressive strength and very good sound insulation. These properties make calcium silicate the preferred walling material for separating and load-bearing walls in multi-storey housing and in acoustically sensitive schools, offices and hotels. In single-family houses the share is lower. Clay bricks, aerated concrete and lightweight blocks are separate datasets; renovation use is limited to conversions, extensions and partitions.

Demand is tied to multi-storey housing, which has slumped sharply since 2022; 2023 brought the steepest decline in the industry’s history. With only a small, resilient renovation base, a slump in multi-storey construction passes through almost unchecked. The main competitors are reinforced concrete, cast in situ or precast, and partly clay brick. Acoustic performance secures its leading position in apartment buildings, and the persistent housing shortage supports a subdued recovery that stays below pre-crisis levels. As a shell product, sales run several quarters ahead of completions.

Which questions about the calcium silicate masonry market does the dataset answer?

  • How far have calcium silicate sales fallen since 2022, and how fast will they recover by 2031?
  • What share of masonry volume goes into non-residential buildings?
  • What do conversions, extensions and partitions contribute compared with new build?
  • In which quarter is the low point?

Who is the dataset for?

The dataset suits calcium silicate plants, suppliers of quicklime, sand and thin-bed mortar, merchants, shell contractors, housing companies and engineers. Investors and analysts use it to judge plant utilisation and capacity.

Data basis and methodology

The series distinguishes new build/renovation and residential/non-residential buildings and includes the total market. The model combines completions, permits and renovation activity with masonry volume per m² of floor area and the market share in new housing weighted by building type; a lead before completion reflects the shell phase. The model was cross-checked against available market and industry data as well as internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Clay bricks, Precast concrete elements (slabs, walls, stairs), Ready-mixed concrete and all data on structural work, load-bearing structure and outdoor facilities.
