Description

Bathroom waterproofing market Germany: sealed area in million m² and forecast to 2031

How is the bathroom waterproofing market in Germany developing? The dataset reports demand for bonded waterproofing beneath tiles and slabs in interiors (AIV), measured as sealed area in million m², quarterly between Q1/2021 and Q4/2031, both as historical market data and forecast.

Under DIN 18534 it covers liquid-applied systems such as liquid membranes and sealing slurries, the largest group, plus sheet membranes and boards with integrated waterproofing, including sealing tapes and collars. They sit beneath tiles in bathrooms, showers and commercial wet rooms. Balcony and terrace waterproofing to DIN 18531-5, below-ground elements and the tiles, adhesive, grout and silicone on the same area are excluded.

In new build, wet-room waterproofing is required by the standard, so volumes follow completions. Bathroom renovation carries most demand: many original bathrooms have never been refurbished, though installers drawn into heating work have at times slowed the backlog. Level-access showers and barrier-free bathrooms enlarge the sealed area per bathroom, as the whole floor is waterproofed. Non-residential demand comes from commercial kitchens, shower rooms, care homes and hotels with high water exposure classes.

Which questions about the bathroom waterproofing market does the dataset answer?

  • How much sealed area comes from renovation compared with new build?
  • How much weight do wet rooms in non-residential buildings carry relative to housing?
  • When do volumes pick up after the trough, and how strongly do they grow by 2031?
  • How is the waterproofed area spread across the quarters of a year?

Who is the dataset for?

Suppliers of liquid membranes, sealing slurries, sheet membranes and tile backer boards plan ranges and capacity. Sanitary and tile wholesalers manage system bundles, bathroom fitters and tilers schedule teams, while investors gauge the bathroom modernisation business.

Data basis and methodology

The series covers new build and renovation as well as residential and non-residential buildings and the overall market. Its inputs are completions, permits and modernisation activity, plus bathrooms per square metre of living space, sealed area per bathroom under DIN 18534, wet-area shares in non-residential buildings and bathroom renewal rates; the time path is coupled to tiled area. Volumes were derived from stock, equipment and renewal parameters and checked for plausibility against available industry information and internal data.

Delivered as CSV and Excel files, each in German and English, with 44 quarterly values. Related datasets: Tile adhesive (thin/medium bed), Grout / joint filler, Basement waterproofing (PMBC, cementitious slurry) and all data on paints, construction chemicals and fastening.
